Our daughter Kayla lived her life with a courage and grace that humbled everyone around her. For years, she faced the daily realities of a chronic illness — not with bitterness, but with a fierce determination to make the most of every moment she had.
Throughout her journey, something remarkable happened. Community came forward. Neighbors, friends, first responders, strangers — people showed up in ways we never expected. That outpouring of love and support carried our family through the most difficult seasons of our lives and showed us, firsthand, what human connection is truly capable of.
Kayla never stopped advocating — for herself, for others facing similar battles, and for a world where no one has to fight alone. She had a gift for making people feel seen. She believed that every person has a story worth hearing and a voice worth amplifying.
When we lost Kayla, we made a promise to carry her spirit forward. Her resilience, her compassion, and her belief in the power of community became the heartbeat of Fire Optics. Every program we deliver, every leader we develop, every department we serve — it is all an extension of what she taught us.
She inspired us to bring people and entire communities together to grow. That mission lives on in everything we do.
Kayla's story is a reminder that resilience is not the absence of struggle — it is the decision to keep going in spite of it.

Leary Fire Fighter Foundation
01Founded in 2000 by actor Denis Leary following a tragic warehouse fire in Worcester, Massachusetts that claimed the lives of six brave firefighters — including his cousin and a childhood friend. The Leary Firefighters Foundation is the only foundation in the U.S. dedicated to funding equipment, vehicles, education, training, and technology for fire departments nationwide. 02Founded by actor and humanitarian Gary Sinise, the Gary Sinise Foundation serves America's defenders, veterans, first responders, their families, and those in need. Til Valhalla Project
04The Til Valhalla Project honors the sacrifice of fallen military heroes by providing custom memorial benches to Gold Star families — free of charge. Each bench is a permanent tribute placed in a meaningful location chosen by the family, ensuring that the memory of their loved one lives on in the community.
